About the Club

We are always pleased to welcome new members to the club and hope that the following notes will be useful.

The club was formed by 1900 as the Felixstowe Rifle Club and used the Army Ranges at Landguard Common (now part of the nature reserve). During World War 2 it became Felixstowe Home Guard Rifle Club. At that time it used the present site with the permission of Mr Clement-Smith and the Drill Hall in Garrison Lane. In 1955 the title was changed back to Felixstowe Rifle Club (FRC) which was the beginning of the club as it is today.

After valid planning consent a new 20 - 50 yard range was built, mainly by club members, in 1995 alonside the existing 100 yard range. This allowed the club to expand its facilities to include small-bore rifle, full-bore rifle, full-bore pistol and black powder.

Following the ban on pistols the club started using pistol calibre carbines. In 2003 the air weapons range was opened offering 10 firing points built to International Standards.

This brings the total of firing points to:

  • 10 for air weapons
  • 6 for 20, 25 and 50 yard (standing, kneeling, prone)
  • 4 for 25, 50 and 100 yard prone

The club is one of several in the country that caters for blind shooters.

We have forged some very strong links with various disability charities and organistaions including East Anglia Blind Association and Optua, as well as assisting several pupils from local schools with Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
