Beginners and new members
We are always ready to welcome new members to club, whether experienced shots or complete beginners.
Unlike most sports, competition shooting classes are usually split by ability alone regardless of age or gender, and few disabilities will prevent you from competing. It is also relatively inexpensive, with second hand equipment regularly becoming available.
For beginners, the club can provide all of the training and equipment that you will need to start shooting and enter a variety of competitions. This will give you a good opportunity to try some different discipline's and equipment before you decide to buy anything.
There is an obvious need for anyone wishing to take up the sport to be strong enough to handle the rifle or pistol you will use. Generally this requires young persons to be about 14 years old and above, however air pistols and rifles are made specifically for juniors. The only way to be sure is to come and give it a go. The sport requires discipline and commitment to compete at any level and most of us in the club have a lot of fun competing with each other.
All beginners are expected to complete a minimum 6 month probationary period, after which you can apply to the club committee for annual membership.
For more details on how to get started please contact us using the form on the Contact us page.
Once you have had a response from the club you will be asked to attend a beginners nights, these are held between 19:30 and 21:30 on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month (except bank holidays).

Beginners FAQ
Q - Is shooting safe?
A - Shooting is a very safe sport. We operate under strict procedures and safety is paramount. As a beginner your first visit will consist of a tour of the club and an in depth safety briefing. Following that, you will be fully supervised by a qualified coach until we are satisfied that you are safe to use the club facilities unsupervised.
Q - Do I need a license or firearms certificate?
A - If you are using the club equipment (which is perfectly adequate for beginners) you don't need a license or firearms certificate. If you later decide to purchase a firearm, air rifle or air pistol then it is best to seek advice from Suffolk Constabulary Firearms Unit who can advise on the type of license you will require and how to apply.
Q - How much does it cost?
A - Probationary members pay a range fee per visit of £5.00 for adults and £3.00 for juniors (under 21 years of age). The range fee includes all targets, equipment and coaching, but does not include ammunition which can be purchased at the club. The cost of ammunition depends on the discipline that you are shooting, but as a guide a tin of 500 air rifle pellets is £4.00 and a box of 50 .22 target rifle ammunition is £3.60. You should budget for using around 50 rounds per visit. Please note that these costs are subject to change and the prices listed above should be used as a guide only.
